Reacting to the UK government's announcement that Wylfa is the government's preferred site for a large-scale gigawatt nuclear power plant, Hedd Vaughan-Evans, Head of Operations, Ambition North Wales, said:
“The prospect of Wylfa becoming a large-scale gigawatt nuclear power plant is positive news. Such a facility would attract huge investment, create a significant level of well-paid skilled jobs and further position Anglesey and North Wales as a leading location for low carbon energy technology.
“What is important now is for the UK Government to provide certainty on the plans and to engage fully with local and regional stakeholders to ensure the project delivers for local communities and the benefits of this opportunity are maximised across Anglesey and North Wales”
“Whilst supportive of the announcement on Wylfa, we would also call on UK Government and Great British Nuclear to prioritise the deployment of a Small Nuclear Reactor (SMR) or Advanced Modula Reactor (AMR) at Trawsfynydd as part of a wider complimentary investment package in the nuclear sector in North Wales.”
