We are committed to helping create a fairer, more equal North Wales where everyone can thrive.
At Ambition North Wales, we recognise the important role we play in promoting equality and ensuring that the benefits of our work are accessible to all.
Through our responsibilities for regional transport planning, strategic development planning, and economic well-being, we have an opportunity to help reduce inequalities and improve outcomes for people across North Wales.
Developing our Strategic Equality Plan
As a relatively new organisation, formally established as a corporate body in 2025, we have focused initially on putting in place the foundations needed to operate effectively. We are now taking the opportunity to develop a meaningful and ambitious Strategic Equality Plan which will set out our equality objectives and the actions we will take over the next four years.
Why do we need a Strategic Equality Plan?
The North Wales Corporate Joint Committee is subject to the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty.
This means we must have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
The Equality Act 2010 identifies nine protected characteristics:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Marriage and civil partnership
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Race
- Religion or belief
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
Our Strategic Equality Plan will set out how we will meet these duties. We will also publish annual reports on our progress, in line with the Welsh specific equalities duties that apply to public bodies.
Have your say
We would like to hear from you. Your views will help us understand the barriers people face and identify the actions we can take to create a more inclusive and equitable region.
We welcome responses from individuals, community groups, organisations and representatives of protected characteristic groups.
