Plans for a Trawsfynydd Innovation, Business and Skills Centre are progressing, following recent approval of the project’s outline business case by Ambition North Wales.
As part of the North Wales Growth Deal, which is delivered by Ambition North Wales, the plans include a 3,635 m² centre as a multi‑use hub for business growth and skills development.
The centre will provide office, laboratory, training, and collaboration spaces to support research, skills development, business growth, and innovation. It is the first phase of a wider plan for the Trawsfynydd site, which is seen as a strategic location within the Eryri Enterprise Zone.
The aim of the project, which would be led by Cyngor Gwynedd, is to create long‑term, high‑value jobs linked to low‑carbon energy opportunities across nuclear decommissioning and emerging technologies. The hub is expected to strengthen the local workforce, support regional supply chains and drive wider socio‑economic regeneration in southern Gwynedd.
Councillor Nia Jefferys, Leader of Cyngor Gwynedd, said:
“The new Innovation, Business and Skills Centre will bring jobs and opportunities to people living in Meirionnydd, across Gwynedd and North Wales. Its unique location has close links to live decommissioning work, specialist supply chains and a highly skilled technical local workforce. I welcome this investment that will lead up to an additional £20.5m for the North Wales economy by 2036.”
Councillor Gary Pritchard, Leader of the Isle of Anglesey County Council is Lead Member for the Growth Deal’s Low Carbon Energy Programme, he said:
“This project can make a real contribution to North Wales’ low‑carbon energy ambitions. It builds on the unique strengths of the Trawsfynydd site, links directly to current nuclear decommissioning work and creates a space where businesses, researchers and skills providers can work together.”
Work on the Trawsfynydd Innovation, Business and Skills Centre is expected to start on site in Autumn 2027.
The project is part of the North Wales Growth Deal’s Low Carbon Energy Programme which aims to unlock the benefits of developing the sector within the region.
